Tom Holland is taking a break from social media for his mental health, but not before sharing an important message with his 67.7 million Instagram followers.
On August 13, the Spider-Man: No Way Home star took to Instagram to explain his absence from all social media apps. In the video Holland explained that reading about himself online has negatively impacted his mental health. “I’m taking a break from social media for my mental health because I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming,” Holland said. “I get caught up, and I spiral when I read things about me online, and ultimately it’s very detrimental to my mental state, so I decided to take a step back and delete the app.”
Before he goes, Holland wanted to make a “very, very brief return to Instagram” to draw attention to the organization Stem4, which he described as a “wonderfully innovative education program” aimed at “helping young kids who are suffering” with their mental health through various apps and resources. “There is an awful stigma against mental health, and I know that asking for help and seeking help isn’t something that we should be ashamed of,” Holland said. “But it is something that is much easier said than done, so hopefully these apps can be your first step towards being happier and healthier.”

Holland continued, “If you’re suffering and you need help, download one of the apps Stem4 has to offer. I have all of them, I’ve tried them all, they’re all fantastic. They’re really helpful. So again, thank you for listening. I’m going to disappear from Instagram again. And to everyone out there, thanks for your love and support. I love you all, and I’ll speak to you soon.”
Since the video was posted, hundreds of Tom Holland fans have flooded his comments section with support, including Justin Bieber, who wrote, “Love you man ❤️.”
