Adalynn Ruiz, the daughter of a teacher at the Uvalde, Texas, elementary school where a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers on May 24, just shared a heartbreaking tribute to her mother on social media.
Ruiz is the daughter of Eva Mireles, a fourth-grade teacher who had spent nearly two decades in education, per NBC News. The other Uvalde, Texas, teacher killed was Irma Garcia, Mireles’s coteacher at Robb Elementary School.
“My sweet mommy, I will miss you forever,” Ruiz wrote on Twitter, sharing two Notes App pages of memories and a selfie of the two of them together. In the post, Ruiz praised her 44-year-old mother’s hard work as a teacher and CrossFit enthusiast, her love of activities like karaoke, and the “silly voice” she used when talking to her dogs. Ruiz shared that her mother would call her every day at 4:30 after school and that she will forever be “so proud” to be Mireles’s daughter.
“I want to fight with you for the stupidest things and then laugh with you after. I want everything back. I want you to come back to me mom. I miss you more than words can explain,” Ruiz wrote, adding, “You are so known by many now and I’m so happy that people know your name and that beautiful face of yours and they know what a hero looks like…I will take care of dad. I will take care of our dogs and I will forever say your name so you are always remembered, Eva Mireles, 4th grade teacher at Robb elementary who selflessly jumped in front of her students to save their lives.”
