Megan Thee Stallion sent a clear message to anti-abortion legislators in her home state of Texas during her performance at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona over the weekend—and she communicated that message with her middle finger.
On stage in Barcelona, Meg asked the crowd to raise their middle fingers in the air. “Tell these goddamn, stupid ass men in Texas trying to tell us what the fuck to do with our bodies,” she said with her middle finger above her head. Abortion is largely inaccessible in Texas because of Senate Bill 8, a law that outlaws abortion after about the six week mark. The law allows private citizens to sue abortion providers or anyone who “aids and abets” an abortion they suspect happened after that six week mark.
The Houston native called out Texan legislators last year too, when she made a similar statement onstage at the Austin City Limits festival, according to the Houston Chronicle. “This middle finger is also to these motherfucking men that want to tell us what the fuck to do with our body. Cuz how the fuck you gonna tell me what to do with my motherfucking body?” Megan Thee Stallion said in October 2021, just after the state’s six week abortion ban took effect.
More recently, Meg signed her name to a petition for abortion rights by Planned Parenthood, joining nearly 160 other celebrities. “We are Artists. Creators. Storytellers. We are the new generation stepping into our power. Now we are being robbed of our power. We will not go back — and we will not back down,” the petition reads. It came just after a Supreme Court majority opinion draft leaked, indicating the Court plans to overturn , a decision that is expected to come this month.
