Jill Biden and the President Fight Over Text and, Honestly, I Get It

You know how parents of small children (and dogs) will spell out words like “i-c-e c-r-e-a-m” and “w-a-l-k?” Well, President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden have their own version of that trick: fighting via text so the Secret Service doesn’t hear them.

In a recent profile in , Dr. Biden reveals that she has a no-phones-at-the-dinner-table policy, but that ever since the start of the Obama administration, when Joe was VP, they’ve used phones for “fexting,” their term for fight-texting. Though we should note, they only fight occasionally. Most of the time Jill is Joe’s number one fan: “I try to be a support for Joe, because I don’t know how many people are saying to him, ‘That was great. That was brilliant.’ I try to be that person for him,” she said. “Some days, I see Joe and I’m just like, ‘I don’t know how you’re doing it.’ It’s the pandemic and then it’s the war and then it’s the economy and then it’s the gas prices. You feel like you’re being slammed.”
