The five-star Karl Lagerfeld hotel has 271 rooms, and is part of the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, a gigantic luxury hotel complex. It was the last design project undertaken by Karl Lagerfeld before his death in February 2019.

Lagerfeld worked closely with SJIM Resorts S.A., a subsidiary of the Sociedade de Jogos de Macau, the company that operates the gambling concession in the former Portuguese colony, whose sovereignty was handed back to China in 1999. SJIM developed the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort in Cotai, a gambling and tourism district occupying a strip of land between the islands of Coloane and Taipa.

“The interiors in each of the 271 rooms and suites are influenced by both classical Chinese design and contemporary Western aesthetics,” the label stated in a press release, citing the presence of custom-made furniture “reflecting Karl Lagerfeld’s passion for collaborations, which include sculptures by Dutch artist Marcel Wanders and French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, and chandeliers by Terzani.”

The Parisian label launched last week in Milan its first interior design collection, featuring a line of furniture and objects developed in collaboration with interior designer Matteo Nunziati and produced under license by The One Design company.

The label is also working on a luxury residential complex called Karl Lagerfeld Villas Marbella, which is being built on the hills overlooking the Spanish seaside resort.
