Maiyet, the socially conscious luxury brand, has selected Declan Kearney, the former design director at Alexander Wang, as its first creative director, according to The New York Times.
Launched in 2010, Maiyet is the brainchild of former human rights lawyer Paul van Zyl, who was also the former executive secretary of the post-Apartheid Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Africa.
Sustainability and ethical principles are a strong point for the brand, which sources unique goods and rare skills from artisans around the world including Peru, Mongolia and India and turns them into high-end creations.
Now with an around-the-clock designer, Kearney is expected to bolster the young company’s fashion edge during a time of quick growth.
The brand currently has 34 wholesale accounts and is expected to reach 60 by next year, according to the Times.
